What are Twitter meta tags?

Similar to the standard Open Graph meta tags Twitter has its own set of tags to help ensure that your content appears perfectly when shared on Twitter.

These special tags are structured in a similar way to normal Open Graph tags, but instead of using the og: namespace you use twitter: For example:

<meta name="twitter:title" content="Your Title">

Twitter also has the option to define what type of card is actually displayed, this can be explicity set using the twitter:card meta tag.

The options include:

  • summary
  • summary_large_image
  • player
  • app
